We were a little disappointed when we walked in the NICU today to see them talking another blood culture from Izzy. They told us that Izzy had two confirmed negative cultures, but then the culture from the 16th came back positive for infection for some reason! It could be just a contaminate... the bacteria they found is normally on your skin, so it's possible that whoever did the culture on the 16th just didn't clean the skin well enough before they poked her and some bacteria got introduced that way. It's also possible that the little clot in her leg was hanging onto some of that bacteria and as the clot started to break down some of the bacteria came loose. The doctors decided to do one more culture today to make sure that there is no more bacteria there.
Klay was able to hold Izzy today for the first time! He's held her in his hands through the isolette but he's never actually got to hold her until today. He is the sweetest dad and the love he has for her is unlike anything else. It makes my heart swell to see the way he looks at her! Unfortunately she had a little bradycardia (her heart rate went way down for a minute) and they decided to put her back in her isolette so he only got to hold her for an hour and a half, but I'm sure he loved every second of it :)
