DAY 29 - 03.25.18

1 MONTH OLD! We can't believe it's been a whole month since our sweet babe entered this world. And even though there have been some stressful times, we have loved every second of being with her. She's battled sepsis, got a blood transfusion, too many needle sticks to count, struggled to breath, got a spinal tap, and so much more that I'm sure I'm forgetting. To say she is a tough, brave girl is an understatement. She is my biggest hero and I am the proudest mom ever!
Today Izzy had some issues with her little heart. She had a couple episodes where her heart rate got up to 240-330 (her usual heart rate is 170-180 for reference.) The doctors at Mckay called Primary Children's and the diagnosis ended up being what's called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
Mayo clinic defines it as when "an extra electrical pathway between your heart's upper and lower chambers causes a rapid heartbeat. The extra pathway is present at birth and fairly rare. The episodes of fast heartbeats usually aren't life-threatening, but serious heart problems can occur. Treatment can stop or prevent episodes of fast heartbeats. A catheter-based procedure (ablation) can permanently correct the heart rhythm problems.)
They have started her on a drug called propranolol that will prevent her heart rate from getting too high. We will have to follow up with a cardiologist when she gets out of the NICU and they will determine if she needs to have the ablation done to permanently get rid of the extra electrical pathway. Kind of a bummer! BUT we are so grateful that she is in the hospital being monitored so that they were able to catch it! AND it's something that is treatable so we're not super worried about it. There is one nurse we have that always tells us that she's going to be an awesome teenager because she's making us worry so much now haha we sure hope so! Happy 1 month sweet girl.
