Yesterday while Izzy was extubated I was sitting with her and we had a pretty rough day. Every 30-60 minutes or so she would stop breathing and her heart rate would drop. They had to stimulate her and pat her on the back until she started breathing again. When she's not intubated she doesn't have a machine that helps her breathe when she stops, so it was pretty scary! It was really hard for me to sit there and watch as she struggled all day. Klay got off work around 4:00 and we left to go home, then around 6:00 the hospital called and said they were going to re-intubate her. She just wasn't quite ready. It's always exciting when they talk about her getting extubated, but if her lungs aren't ready it's more scary than it is good. So... we are glad that she's got the tube back in. She has been so much more comfortable today than she was yesterday. She's mostly been riding the vent and letting it do all the work for her today, her little lungs must be so tired from yesterday!
They did an echo of her heart yesterday and everything looked good! There were no vegetations on her heart so they are confident that we will be ok stopping her antibiotics on the 2nd.
She weighed 2 lbs. 12 oz. today, just growing right along! We are so proud of her little belly and how well it has done digesting everything properly. Intestinal problems are really common with premature babies so we're thrilled that we haven't had many problems with that yet.
It was a full house in the NICU today and it was pretty overwhelming. So far it has been pretty calm and quiet, but today every bed was taken and I think every baby's parents were in there at the same time...crazy!
