When Klay got to the hospital today they had put Izzy's tube back in. Unfortunately she was having a lot of apnea (not breathing) and bradycardia (where her heart rate goes WAY down), so around 5:00 this morning they decided she needed to be re-intubated. Darn! We really thought she would stay off this time... one day she will!
At this point they aren't sure why. She's been having a lot of secretions from her lungs, which makes them think that it could be pneumonia. They took a sample of her secretions and did a culture with them to send to the lab. We'll just have to wait with that to see if anything grows. They also did a CBC and looked at her blood under the microscope and everything looked clear so that is promising! She's mostly been riding the vent today, not breathing on her own at all. They are considering doing another steroid treatment in a couple days but we'll have to see what the culture does first.
She is so close to 3 pounds! Tonight she weighed 2 lbs. 15 oz. and they've bumped up her feedings to 23 mL every 3 hours. So happy that her belly is still doing great! And she hasn't had any SVT with her heart in a while so there is some good news!
