DAY 42 - 04.07.18

We always seem to have bad luck on the weekends. The culture from her lung secrections came back positive today, which means that our sweet Isabelle now has pneumonia. On top of it, the bacteria that was found is MRSA. MRSA stands for Methycillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, it's a bacteria that is resistant to some antibiotics so it can be difficult to treat. For now, Izzy has been moved to an isolation room and we have to gown up every time we go in to see her. I just hate this. It's so hard to see her struggle again when she was doing so good! When we were visiting tonight her CO2 levels were reading up to 90! That's not good! They did a blood gas to make sure the reading was right, and luckily it wasn't, it was 57. We were able to take a sigh of relief after that. Her vent settings are pretty high though, so I won't be surprised if she is back on the oscillator soon.
The good news is that her lungs sounded great tonight! They collected another sample from her lung secretions to send to the lab to confirm what they found with the last culture, and they also got a blood culture to make sure it's not in her blood.
She finally hit the 3 pound mark today which was exciting! She has been really calm and comfortable today so that's good. We're just praying that the antibiotics that she's on do the trick and that she doesn't get any more infections!
