Izzy's doing a little better today. She hasn't had as many secretions, however, she still has some so they're going to continue antibiotics until Monday. If she still has some on Monday then they'll probably continue for another 4 days after that.
Today we asked the nurse practitioner about her eye exam and she told us Izzy's first one would be on either Tuesday or Thursday next week. With the eye exam they're checking for what's called ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity).
ROP: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an eye disease that can happen in premature babies. It causes abnormal blood vessels to grow in the retina, and can lead to blindness.
Luckily the eye doctor will watch for this very closely and if she needs it they have a laser treatment to correct the problem, if there is one. She's had a rough time so we're hoping she doesn't have any eye problems, she deserves a break!
